Looking for rear side window options

Post by bretski » Tue May 22, 2007 9:12 am

The vent wing on my driver's side rear-window is on the verge of rotting out. I think the answer to this is "no", but was there a rear slider ever available on bays?

I would like to have ventilation in the back seat, and have no intention of replacing my jalousie windows. Do I have any options, or am I stuck with either a solid window or another ventwing?

Solid window or vent window. I'm going to do the solid window replacement, someday...already have the glass but am exceedingly busy/lazy.
Those vent windows are notorious leakers. If you need more ventilation, get that rear mosquito screen and keep the back hatch open.

You can keep the louvers open a smidgen...but too much makes the works rattle around.
Yeah keep that back hatch closed while driving! When I was very small my crabby dad had a much hated early bay westy poptop, and I used to ride back there above the engine (talk about safe). In my mind's eye that space back there is huge! Not sure what my point is.....

My rear vent wing window on the driver's side is rotted out too. I've had to caulk it shut to keep water out. I bought used vent windows on Ebarf, but they were missing the lower pins! Live and learn. So, find a used window with the pin (not so easy) or go solid. I WISH there was a better option. What can we come up with? I love the air to flow freely!

I have seen pictures of rear sliding windows on bay buses. They came from either Mexico or Brazil. I wish someone would bring them into the USA. Supposedly only for the left side. They thought people would have their head out the window when someone opens the sliding door. Not sure if this is true since i have seen them on both sides.

Finding good non rusty vent windows is getting tougher each year.

With the water leaks, the bottom pivot gets rusty fast. Then the pin shears when you try to open it.

They came in two flavors: chrome for buses and black for Westies.

I may have some good chrome ones but I will need to look tomorrow.
