Hardtop Vanagon Westy

Post by energyturtle » Sat May 07, 2016 7:07 pm

I am looking for feedback on the notion of putting a westy interior in a 82 Vanagon L. I used the late Energyturtle to go on overnight excursions often. I love the way the chassis of an early Vanagon, paired with its original Aircooled 2Lt feels and drives. Custom, semi-original hardtop westy? Feedback is appreciated in advance.

If you can find a real Westy interior to use, sure, why not. Otherwise just build something to fit your needs. Stock Westy interiors waste a lot of space and weigh a lot. An aircooled Vanagon doesn't want much in the way of additional load to haul around.

Unladen, Chloe weighs 3,022 lbs. Fully Itinerated, we tipped the scales at 3,800 lbs, chubby 160 lb Itinerator included:

This year's NaranjaWesty has 600 lbs of tools and crap and an even fatter still 163 lb Itinerator, for a gross gross of 4,000-4,100 lbs.
That means I can only throw in an additional 862 lbs, damn, what to leave behind?
