Window weatherstrip
This summer I will be doing some body work and painting on the van. One thing that needs attention is the outside weatherstrip on the doors. Currently I have the original so it has the chrome strip still in it. I would like to replace it and leave the the chrome. What is the probability that it the chrome will remain intact?

Weatherstrip is commonly the name for the door-to-body gasket.
Window surrounds is used for the rubber around stationary glass.
"Outside weatherstrip for doors" I think is what we refer to as the "outer scraper" if you are talking about the front door brightwork that surrounds the window opening.

Re: Window weatherstrip
Yes Colin you are correct. The outer scrapers are what I am referring to. What are the odds that the chrome strip will remain intact? I wasn't planning on replacing all rubber but if I end up going with the non standard black than that is what I will need to do.

The Bentley is not making it easy for me to be able to answer you. My '89 Vanagon GL was black trimmed.Mulcheese wrote:Yes Colin you are correct. The outer scrapers are what I am referring to. Re: Window weatherstrip
I did find my answer. Pull out from scraper, cut out chrome strip, install new non chrome accepting scraper.

Re: Window weatherstrip
I am not grokking the final result. Does this mean you lose the chrome?Mulcheese wrote:I did find my answer. Pull out from scraper, cut out chrome strip, install new non chrome accepting scraper.

Re: Window weatherstrip
Sadly yes. But at half the price for rubber replacement it is hard to not go straight black. I have already done this on the front window replacement years ago. I guess it is just time to move on.Amskeptic wrote:
