Coating the wheel wells?

Post by westy78socal » Wed Jan 31, 2007 7:30 pm

Just wondering what might be good to coat the wheel wells to reinforce the metal and also prevent rusting. Or general under body care to keep things from rusting out. Thanks.

I'm going to use this: http://www.gemplers.com/shop/restoratio ... g/RCQ.html

Then spray on this: http://www.gemplers.com/shop/restoration/G55625.html

Or Eastwood sells this:

Then coat with a decent oil based paint.

POR-15. When dry looks a lot like the factory undercoating and very durable under there. Has held up to gravel roads very well. Just brush it on and go make a sandwich.

Anyone have a good way to remove that black undercoat surface that is already there?

If it's really stuck on I'd leave it, chances are you have shiny paint underneath. The loose stuff tends to srape off pretty easily with a putty knife, etc.
All I've done is scrape off the loose patches and POR-15 overlapping the orginal undercoating. After a few miles of dirt ya can't see the difference.
