New Door Keys?

Post by hambone » Thu Oct 13, 2011 9:35 pm

What is the cheapest way to get keys made for an existing lock? I have the handles, but no keys. I'd assume the rear hatch lock is the same key.

Take the barrel out and to your local friendly locksmith. Key blanks may be an issue.

The blanks are still available from many of the online vendors. Genuine VW even.

I did some Histordty Detectives and found that the codes stamped on all 3 locks are the same! And 311 part #s so they are original to the car.
Comparing the handles to type2 I see that type3 are a bit longer, a different part. Surprising.

Can anyone recommend an old school Portland locksmith with sawdust on the floors? Or am I a lost romantic...
