Fuel Gauge

Is there any service that can done to the fuel gauge? With a full tank mine takes a few minutes after startup for the needle to move and then only registers 3/4 full. I have a new float/sender in the tank so I'm reasonably, although not absolutely, certain the problem is in the gauge.

First, make sure the vibrator on the back of the gauge is snugly fastened. It gets ground from that attachment and will do all kinds of wonky things if it's loose. Here's a pic stolen from TS so you'll know what you're seeing when you see it.

I had to change my gauge too. The new one is from mexico.
I have a low reading too.
I guess it needs some lever bending. What a waste of time....

I kept the old parts. May be I'll make the ultimate replacement for the broken resistiv wire. What I have in mind is making a printed circuit board fitted with CMS resistors. This can be done, I saw "potentiometers" made that way for very high quality audio equipements.

mine was being like that so I bought a replacement.
when Colin was here I showed him my shiny replacement and he said to leave it where it was. we pulled the sender, bent it in some 'you better find out for yourself/don'tblamemeifitdoesn'twork' kinda way and now it reads full when full.

if I recall correctly, the main concern was bending it too far would make it ground out when full.

proceed with caution if you try any of the above.

Russell, the needle does take a long time to move on the later gauges, it is a different reading method than the earlier vibrator style. If yours is taking an inordinately long time to go up, it is most likely a mechanical issue with the pivot/heater. If it were electrical, the absolute reading would be affected.
