Dry cell battery? seems expensive!

Post by ghiagirl » Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:20 pm

My mechanic says I should buy a dry cell battery for my 72 ghia, for 160.00!
Why can't I use a normal battery? I've never had one leak in the past.
Anyone?
Thanks :bounce:
1972 Ghia with a single port 1.6, going to paint it light grey blue two tone with almond matte High gloss. It's getting the engine put in this weekend and I'll be buying parts for the interior as I go. The paint is the last on the list.

I think if you have money to burn, then get it. Hi tech stuff
But for economy sake a standard battery will do just fine. You can get a sealed unit and make sure it is secured properly.

Course, I'm a function over form kinda guy.

I'm sure others will have an opinion, but I seem to recall a recent discussion that led to the determination that the dry cell route was more money than it was worth. Could be mistaken.

Good luck.
So it all started when I wanted to get better gas mileage....

What was the mechanic's reasoning? "Standard" batteries work just fine.

Less likelihood of battery box corrosion. . . a potentially expensive deterioration on a beautiful red Karmann Ghia for example...
