The fan shroud??? You definitely don't need to pull the fan shroud to take out the alternator. That's 1000X more work than needs to be done. The oil filler, the tin under the oil filler, and the alternator tin do need to come off, but for the love of God there's no need to remove the fan shroud.

Just makes it easier to work the alternator out because it's on the shroud. It also gives you a chance to clean all that stuff up and get a look at the top of the jugs & heads. Not a big deal. Jeez.
