Gear Reduction Starter Installation

I recently bought this boutique starter because I'm tired of putting in a new "rebuilt" unit every couple years. Two questions.
1. The regular old starter, the shaft lives inside the bushing in the bell housing. But with this starter, the shaft with the gear on it, it doesn't reach that far. They say it's the right one for my bus. Is that right? I don't get it.
2. Assuming it is correct, I don't need a bushing there anymore, right?
3. They supply this helpful sheet for hooking up the wires (below), but of course I'm not driving a Vanagon. How do I figure out what from the bus goes where on the new starter?
