I saw in the "parts known to be acceptable" sticky that the Aircooled.net SVDA was the bee's knees, but it seems to be going to way of bees (are bees still disappearing?) and is unavailable.
Aircooled suggests the Pertronix II distributor instead. Has anyone switched to this? If so, how is it? If not, any other recommendations for solid distributors?
My bus has an 009 and I think I've had enough of the flat spot in the low RPMs. Would love to hear some thoughts on this.
I'm running a type four engine with two Weber IDF40s.

Re: Anyone buy an SVDA lately?
Hey Jivermo,
Thanks for weighing in and putting this on my radar. Were you pushing the 009 before? How did putting the new dizzy in change things--just a smoother arc?
I am hoping that folks who have experience with Pertronix can chime in here and say if they think it's a good way to go.

Re: Anyone buy an SVDA lately?
I think the Pertronix is Chinese, always a gamble. Quality is often missing.
$180 for Bosch! VW parts are gettin expensive for the good stuff....but it should last a good long time.
I think I'd rather get a rebuilt stock distributor for the same price, via Philbin or elsewhere. They are matched to the engine.

Re: Anyone buy an SVDA lately?
I did not have the 009 in my bus. The old, original unit had a lot of slop in it. Yes, the smoother run was immediately apparent. I was surprised at what a difference it made. I also ordered the distributor rebuild kit from Bus Depot. I'll play around with my old unit, and keep it for a spare.

Re: Anyone buy an SVDA lately?
According to a recent post by this vendor: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... ?id=805674, the Mexican VW SVDA's are NOT discontinued,
and of course you can get one from him (and several other vendors around the world). You would think he would know if anybody does.
