How to remove the Input Shaft Seal without the special tool?

Post by Sluggo » Thu Nov 16, 2006 9:05 pm

Does anyone know how to remove the input shaft seal without the special tool. I spent quite a bit of time on it today and only succeeded in mangling the old seal. Any advice?

Did you read my post over elsewhere about removing the bell housing from the differential and popping it out from the other direction? Ask Bottomend, we pulled that sucker on his transaxle a couple of years ago. I assume you have the release bearing collar off?

Release bearing collar is off. I went at it yesterday with a slide hammer. Broke the slide hammer attachment and did not pull the seal. I'll try your idea today.

Slide hammer was not a success. Tapped a screw driver gently in between the seal and bore. Bent the seal inwards till it was a little loose and pulled it out. Tapped the new one in gently and it went pretty well. A little muched on the edge of the new seal but it is sealing!
