timing question
I've been running my bus for the past year or so with aprox 30-32 degrees of timing all-in (vac. line removed, revved to approx 3500 rpm), however, at this setting it only gives me a couple of degrees at idle. It's been hard to start (typically takes 3-5 attempts) at this setting as well.
For grins, I set it at about 7.5 degrees at idle like mr. bentley says - and guess what - my hard start issue has disappeared. I haven't heard it ping, and all 'manual' checks of engine temp indicates it is not running hot. As an insurance policy I've been running mid grade or premium as a safety precaution against predetonation.
what sez collective intelligence? run it as is b/c it seems happy, or am i tempting the fates?

Re: timing question
Sounds like the place to start. Maybe borrow a known good one to confirm before purchasing.Randy in Maine wrote:I think I would be looking for a new distributor.

Re: timing question
Still cheaper than a new engine.
I run one of those SVDAs from aicooled.net with good results.

Re: timing question
I can attest that I, too, am running one, and it resolved quite a few little issues. Have another I bought to put onto the engine being built for the Ghia. Yikes indeed, but peace of mind is very good, too.
