Re: cause of my rear oil seal leak
When I bought it from a local company it was supposed to be a quality seal to replace the crappy black seal I had that leaked. Hmm, the orange color meant I thought it was a Victor Reinz seal.
Now after removing it with my reading glasses on I see its a "Made in Mexico" seal! Don't use it....as it leaks.
I have now installed a real Victor Reinz orange "B" seal that is thicker and fits nice and tight around the crank and fills the space in the case.
Third time I hope is the charm to not have a leaking rear seal. Yes, the flywheel seal surface is perfect as I picked thru a stack of flywheels to find this one. The old one had a groove worn in it from not changing the oil ever!

Re: cause of my rear oil seal leak
yup, the leak seems to be fixed but the real test is the trip down to Maupin. Looks good so far.

Re: cause of my rear oil seal leak
I had an orange seal from Mexico...don't know the brand...that leaked in about 6 years and 30K miles.
The new one (last year) is German, but black. I assume it is nitrile or EDPM. No leaks. I hope she holds longer than the old one.

Re: cause of my rear oil seal leak
Did the thicker one have a double lip?
Those are great; usually the lips ride on a place other than where the original one did.

Re: cause of my rear oil seal leak

Re: cause of my rear oil seal leak
If you look in a catalogue from a company such as Chicago Rawhide, they list them by size. Within the size then they have a few styles, single lip, double lip, etc.
I usually get seals from a local bearing shop; they know the topic.
