How beat up is too beat up? Mine has some dented/squashy fins, but you can see through all of them.

I took a small screwdriver and straightened out the dented fins on mine. I'd use that one.

I think you'd be fine. Have you tested the integrity of it to make sure it will hold pressurized oil. I tested mine with air compressor (with rubber cone shaped tip) pressed against one hole and your thumb covering the other hole while dipping as much of it as possible in a bucket of water and looking for bubbles leaking out - is that a run on sentence?
