Re: Type IV heat exchanger interchange
Is whc03grady still in need of '72-'74 heat exchangers?

Good to know, his posts in this thread didn't seem to indicate whether his quest had ended or not.whc03grady wrote:I have it on good authority that he ain't.tristessa wrote:Is whc03grady still in need of '72-'74 heat exchangers?

Sorry for the lack of closure.tristessa wrote:[H]is posts in this thread didn't seem to indicate whether his quest had ended or not.:
He secured '72-'74-style heat exchangers from some place in Arizona some months ago.

Technical Forum? The moderator is displeased with this blatant disregard for his protocols that are supposed to help future searchers get to the damn point.whc03grady wrote:Sorry for the lack of closure.tristessa wrote:[H]is posts in this thread didn't seem to indicate whether his quest had ended or not.:

Re: Type IV heat exchanger interchange
Pretty sure I got the better end of the bargain. Thanks again, Geoff. To keep it technical, what side of the fence is everyone on regarding exhaust fasteners. I live in the wet Puget Sound climate so I ALWAYS use stainless steel fasteners (with anti-seize of course). I've seen the copper nuts, but it appears these are used with standard zinc plated bolts. Is this a better choice than stainless steel? If so, why?

Re: Type IV heat exchanger interchange
I use SS bolts and nuts but remember they break pretty easy if you over tighten them. I am pretty happy not to be storing em finally....too many car parts!

Re: Type IV heat exchanger interchange
I like to double up on the copper seals, heat them up cherry red, let 'em cool slowly. that softens 'em up so they can give a good crush seal. hold first ring in place with bearing grease, the second with aviation permatex. Not much, just enough to hold 'em up while you wiggle the h/e in. also put anti seize on both ends of the stud, I'd rather have the stud come out of the head than extract a snapped one.
