1600 single port manifold

Post by hambone » Mon Dec 28, 2009 11:29 am

Should washers be used under the nuts that mount the manifold flange to the head? Or does it not matter?
The washers are missing currently, but think they may need to be there.

Yes, another fine example of correct thinking from Hambone.

Thanks guys!
Man I sure could use the handy Bookwus manifold tightening tool but I'm gonna have to wing it. Should be OK with a wrench but we'll see...

I was able to clamp it down pretty good with a wrench, but one of the nuts is sort of chewed up because of the weird angle. It's probably fine but bothers me. I'm tempted to remove it and replace it, but don't want to throw off the works since the other 3 would already be tightened down. I can always do it later I guess. Hopefully it won't give me trouble in the future!

It's tight enough. I just worry about taking off the nut - and those compressed rings under the manifold ends. I think they need to be replaced every time the manifold is loosened.
At least you can get to it with the engine in the bus.
