something that I read from the IAC mission hit me and I found a way to contribute:

"We are also rabidly committed to championing the cause of Buying Quality Parts! PAY! Cough it up! Suffer a little! You will find that the pain goes away sooner than getting a bargain that falls apart in your lap or doesn't even fit. We will compile a compendium of Known Acceptable Parts and Belatedly Discovered Junk. "

So, I thought that I would get the process going...AND I have been on the receiving end of some junky parts...and some good parts.... :geek:

One size fits all cam gears.
Replacement oil pumps that take all kinds of gyrations to make fit.
Engine gasket kits that don't include the case dampers.

How 'bout a list of decent machine shops/ machinists?

Don't forget GEX heads. Mine were mismatched and they just stamped matching part #s over the original #s.

They do crappy rebuilds of heads and mis-match them on their engines.

^^^^^what he said, GEX is the pimp and purveyor of the whored out and dis-illusioned engine. Not even a crack fix can help them.

More Belated Junk:

Purolator filters. Used to be good, this latest air filter has half the pleat-depth and thus surface area of the original air filters. Damn them!

Really? Crap!!! That was a readily available decent Fram avoidance filter too.

Don't laugh...but according to the tests I've read and my own visual inspection of internal construction...I like AC Delco oil filters.
...And you know I wouldn't have a GM vehicle again.
(Except maybe a '59 Chevy)

I also like the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter and WIX.
The WIX didn't seem to test quite to the level of the first two in the fine partical filtration department though.

What is your particle-filtration test source?
Wix is the manufacturer of the Napa Gold filter I currently use. I like the anti-drainback of these filters.

I didn't read you post closely enough. Thought you meant oil filters.
The link for the oil filters that showed both the element porocity and flow is no longer available. I can try to find if I printed it somewhere and if I did, I'll scan it to you.
The link was off the bottom of this page though calles "Superlative Study": http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Filter ... OilFilters
This was not the famous Knizefamily/html study.
http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfil ... ecommended

WIX, according to the results: the flow was excellent, and the fine partical filtration was not outstanding.
The Mobil 1 Ext. Performance was high in both regards, as was the AC Delco.
M-1 E.P. and Delco are both from Champion Labs. although the Delco is much less expensive.

Type1 aftermarket distributor clamp. The bolt threads stripped out immediately due to inferior materials. Gold (cadmium?) plated and looks high quality but DON'T BE FOOLED!
The orginial German clamp lasted 38 years. The Chinese clamp not even 1 day...................

The 009 dizzy
Does it count as junk? It seems to be more of an incorrect application issue, they seem to be built fairly well. I used em' for years even tho vacuum advance is superior.

Single port intake manifold from CIP1. Doesn't fit and the carb placement wont even allow you to put the generator back in place :cyclopsani:

Absolute garbage, buyer beware.
