And speaking of German Mahle Pistons,Kolbemnschmidt Barrels?(that Kolben MEANS Piston auf Deutsch, makes me wonder furtherer.)

Is a piston/barrel set about 1K$? (Edit:more like 250$...@this time they get their 93mm's from LE. Who inturn get their93mm's from AA,for about 245$to your door) from like the type four store is there another source. I am in the northeast USA if shipping becomes a factor.
Thanks to whomever!!has info.

After some discussion with Colin, I bought these. I sent them out to Rimco to use in a rebuild of my original '78 2000cc case.

Thanks Jivermo.

Looks like Mahle DOES make 94mm's.Not a crazypants price either.

Sensible for Mahle to still supply the better/later/or just bigger Type4.

I would need a crank change/case split and much other fettling to convert to 2L.

Anyone know of a set of 93mm Mahles out there?

If Mahles have been squirrel ed away..

Does anyone have experience with the Bus Depot 93's?

The AA set of 93's is priced lowest.
They seem eager to plop a set on my door step. Or really my friend John the attorney's doorstep, where my packages are addressed to..

While I am at it..rehabbing engine tin, and patching heaterboxes.

I am miles from my miller mig welder, and oxy acetylene.

Thinking about soldering patches on heater boxes?mig left gaps which eventually held moisture, then rotted. So,Real metal, flux, solder,
propane torch,as I have yet to buy that roof coppering electric iron...
Probably will work better...Any thoughts?

Tough environment for metal. Hot hot exhaust meets cold cold rain splash. Fractures aplenty. The jackets are normally just pressed over the exhaust with crimp seams that allow the temperature extremes and vibration to let the jackets give a little. The jackets do not need to be airtight, they need only a robust supply of fresh air from the fan(s) to give you decent heat.

And while the last few bits are gathered,.030 cylinder spacer shims are hard to herd up.

As are .020,.010"...

I need a source for them.

May I stack .020"+.010"to=.030"?

Every shim is another opportunity to leak. It may also be another opportunity for the cylinder to "land" out of true square to the case. I do not know, for certain, the mechanical aspects. However, they are available in all your necessary sizes from aircooled.net.

Belated thanks for your Aircooled.net suggestion Asia3b.
Recap from the seven day satellite site reassembly:

In a sixty three hour effort the top end and tin and exhaust all went together, and is now playing nicely to local audiences and yours truly alike.

Backstory was being a late westy, I took apart into short block status with engine in the car, since I could.

Had a grindy moment with the #3 piston pin install....With the 003 auto trans bell housing close and nearby, yet cramping room for #3 piston pin (front to back install)
Obviously #4 has dibbs to precede.
So the grindy moment has to occur. Piston hanging agape.
Full draping was in invoked. Think I pulled out the zip sheetrock trimmer, with carbo wheel adapter, and scalloped out a pin shape from the ?alum?magnesium trans bell housing.
Got it fired only two hours past day's time estimate, with still enough time to create and contain a valdeezing of the under engine work area.
Flustered by a pinched oil temp sender wire (fan housing) I forgot oil filter. So while I was staring at 300° oil temp indication, and still prefire, oil pressure cranking,I was also ensuring the pavement there would never rust.
A call for cat litter, newspaper and a tarp, and I drove away that day, with the best runinng engine I had yet experienced in this now ten years of being the hostage of a type four powered, pastel white, auto, wesfahlia.
