Seems like the 3/4 bank (driver's side) goes through valve cover gaskets...almost like they are getting 'sucked' in. I have to replace every 1-2k miles or so. bottom of the gasket looks like a mild "W" or sideways "S". Anyone else run into that?
Don't tell Colin this, but I was thinking of RTV'ing the next one in place.

Re: appetite for valve cover gasket...
I have always used a very very thin coating of RTV. Applied very very carefully. I have never experienced the issues you describe Troll.

Re: appetite for valve cover gasket...
I am guessing a slightly warped valve cover is the root cause. It's not that big of deal...just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same.

Tell ruckman101 he is on probation for that RTV post.TrollFromDownBelow wrote:I am guessing a slightly warped valve cover is the root cause. It's not that big of deal...just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same.
Please clean the valve cover very thoroughly of all oil residue. Apply a thin stripe of Indian Head shellac (available at older FLAPS like NAPA) on the valve cover's gasket surface. Apply a fresh cork gasket and ensure that it is seated along the outside of edge of the valve cover lip. Apply a thin coat of grease on the exposed cork where it will contact the head.

The Itinerant Air-Cooled default is always Whatever Works . . . but it makes me nervous, that stuff.ruckman101 wrote:Probation again? Sigh.
