Improved silicone rocker cover gaskets
People in the Triumph car world rave about these rocker gasket covers and I see they are now available for the bus:

Like us, they are on a life-long mission to stop oil leaks and as rocker covers are chronic offenders, enjoy the great reduction in oil drops on the floor when they use these. Reusable!

I have had hideous results with rubber gaskets slipping and sliding out of position and not being able to seal an AMC head (because they have too shiny a surface, unlike the machined-grooves of the factory surface.
I would switch to silicone (since I adjust my valves once a month during the itinerary) if I had a solid personal recommendation and instructions from the provider *not to use sealant of any kind*.

Re: Improved silicone rocker cover gaskets
I use a silicone gasket in my 90 Jeep Comanche for the valve cover since it is almost impossible for a cork gasket to stay in there with its 4.0L inline 6. Plus it used to always leak. No leaks with the silicone and properly torqued down to 25 inch pounds and not a single one more. I cleaned both surfaces well first. This is the one I used...

Installed these today, since my corks were leaking. They fit well, and after a bit of a run, I don't see any leaks. I'll keep this updated when I open them up.again, or if I develop any leaks. Be neat if they are good.
Here's the instruction sheet:

Re: Improved silicone rocker cover gaskets
They are working well. When I pulled the engine for the rebuild, they showed no signs of leaking. And, it looks like I'll be able to reuse them. So, they are on the way to paying for themselves.

Re: Improved silicone rocker cover gaskets
Back In The Day someone was selling the latest greatest valve cover gasket made out of rubber (or rubber-like material). They were awful. Leaked like you had no gaskets on at all.
These look like they will be worth a try.

Pencils are more reliable than pens.
Pens and paper sure beat computers; there is no boot-up time and the batteries don't die.
Buuuut you can't log in to itinerant-air-cooled.com from a pad of paper.
Sometimes new is OK - sometimes tried and true still works.
It's lovely to have choice. First world problem!
