Brake booster line leaking

I've got a vacuum leak in the brake booster line (ac Vanagon). Was able to get a new check valve at Halsey (VWparts) but they don't have the hard plastic line itself. Am I OK to replace said line with standard vacuum hose?

I have, get something with a stiff wall that won't collapse, tell the parts guy what you are using it for. Don't accept heater hose. Are you sure it's not up front by the booster? Isn't there a piece of hose up there?

I got some stiff (but not hard, like OEM) hose and installed. I could hear the leak right at the joint near the firewall. Had "fixed" it with some electrical tape last fall, but it had been nibbling at my mind since.

Haven't had time to drive around the block, but it runs. Stopped some other leaks so now I think I need to reset idle and fuel mixture.

Vanagons use plastic lines which help keep a crisp pedal. If you need to use hose, get the wire-reinforced hose. Feel free to use gobs of JB Weld if you have chafed or cracked plastic lines.

Ah. I have left my original intact, in case this was the advice. I'll take a look at it in the morning.

Anyone know of a source, he says as he gets ready to go a Googling.

I used flexible 1/2" copper pipe with short bits of 1/2" reinforced radiator hose at the connections. Lasted 4 years on the '72, another 2 years on the '77 and still going.
