Rear Brake Noise

I hear a rhythmic "tick tick tock" from the left rear drum upon braking. It's only noticeable right before stopping. Any suggestions before I pull the drum off? I think I'll try an adjustment first. Doesn't appear to be a CV issue, no noise on turns etc.
New brake shoes and springs last summer BTW.
Maybe a rock stuck up there? Bad spring?

Only upon braking? Think of the emergency brake hardware too. Look for shiny spots in the wrong places once you get in there.

It could also be this blasted climate, when surface rust builds up in .03 seconds. The rain this year has been continuous.
I don't like slight sounds in my cars, and then there's the 42 years of it clattering down horrible roads.

I second this. Had it happen on my '72 and my current Bus. The orientation was just slightly off and the ticking/knocking only occurred when braking.
