timing issue on 1980 aircooled 2.0 Vanagon

I posted a timing problem on thesamba for a friends 1980 Vanagon with a 2.0 air-cooled engine. We've been trying to set the timing on it for the last few days and we've run out of ideas. If anyone is bored, could you maybe look over this link
