something amiss

So I drive my 60 beetle daily to work and back - about a month ago i pulled my engine to replace a leaking rear main seal and replaced my clutch disk at the same time as it had a bit of a glaze on it.

Well today on the way home all was well until about 30 min into the drive. In first and second when i gave it gas It felt like the clutch wasn't engaging or maybe its slipping? I let it cool down a bit and took it for a spin around the block and it seemed much better.

I figure I'll double check to make sure my drums aren't stripped before i pull the engine again.

Anyone have any other ideas of what it could be?

Sounds like clutch slip. Want a visit? I owe you some time.

well the clutch disk looks pretty chewed up for 4 weeks of use.. wht would cause this? I don't think my cable was too tight.

Inadequate clamping force! Lousy pressure plate OR incorrectly surfaced flywheel!

Hows Monday (26th) evening 6:00 on?
Colin
(p.s. I had my stupid engagement calendar on the wrong month, let me tell you, sonny, getting old is tricky)

How old is the Pressure Plate? Looks like that is the problem.

yea the pressure plate was a sachs but has about 7 years on it.
I just picked up a new one and paid a bit much for it- sachs brasilia 70 bucks..., the other ones they had at the store for 35 looked terrible. the castings looked like junk and had bits grinded off here and there to balance i guess
