adjustment of Vanagon clutch pedal

Post by dingo » Wed Jun 05, 2013 11:03 pm

my friends 85 Vanagon: pedal all the way down, and there is not disengagement i.e. delay and grrrring until shift can be made. Local SoCal shop says only solution is laborious and costly pedal removal, welding on of material, machining of bolt on pedal etc etc

is there no way top adjust pdeal on hydraulic clutch?

I can't guess exactly as to the problem, but there is some discussion here:

It's worth noting that the pedal is apparently part of the rod, not simply placed on the rod with the brake pedals. this means replacing the clutch pedal is a bit more difficult than simply setting an adjustment. I'm wondering if the pedal is worn out...?

10cent is as good as it gets, so his thoughts will be useful. Can you give more detail about what the problem is?

Best,

ML

Is this not a simple case of bleeding the clutch system to make it efficient enough to handle a little slop?
Personally, I would file down the master cylinder flange with a dremel to make it eat the play out of the pedal. With the leverage ratio of 10:1, you'd need only 2mm at the flange to take out an inch of slop. Then I'd lubricate the pivot to stop the wear.
