It was sad reading about that girl.... She sounded like a really cool person.

That's a very sad but nice story.

On a happier note: I love this thing. It's so damn close to stock it's scary. I can get the repaint off very easily. It looks like a crappy Maaco job with no primer. It comes off when you rub it with a towel. Crawled underneath to look around and so much stuff looks untouched. The CV Boots are soft and pliable and still have the pinch clamps on. Some of the vacuum hose is original and has all the pinch clamps too. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the original engine and it had never been dropped. Found places to get most of the body parts I need. It will need to be re-sprayed with stock paint. But only on the outside. Expect to see me at the shows with this baby. I still need to think of a name.

The mechanic they had working on it was a monster. But luckily it looks like all he touched was hoses. The fuel lines are spliced together, leaking, crap and the fuel filter was barely together and leaking. Found a puddle of gas on the tin. The vacuum hoses to the auto tranny are spliced, leaky & old. Accuvance dizzy (cheap, Chinese version of the 009).

Man! I can't wait to get this going. My Bus is going to feel so neglected.

I look forward to seeing it as well. Your 411 sounds like my Squareback, rough-looking on the outside and a gem underneath. . . like us.

Sold my 411. When I finally move I'll have no place to put it. I'll already have to park my Bus on the street and my other Bus will be in the garage while it's being built. If you live in L.A. you can imagine what parking is like around Olympic & Fairfax. It's a nightmare.

I figure I need to dedicate myself to one car at a time. When I'm done with the new Bus (almost done with the welding) I'll be looking for another VW. Maybe a Type 4 or Type 3. Maybe even a Bug. They're a dime a dozen out here.

You are still alive? What brings you to the five year old 411 Sluggo story?
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Well hell what have you been up to, and what are you driving these days?

A 1983 Class C RV and a 1999 Saab 9-3. Wife is doing a 2005 Subaru Forrester (ugh... Plastic piece of crap.)

No new bus since the Guac. Came close to picking up a 77 Westy but the guy couldn't get his paperwork together.
