Who here is also disrupted by having to find the username of the person posting over on the right side of the screen?

Is there a reason for putting people's username/avatars over on the right side of the screen?

Me. It's opposite of every forum I've been on and it seems distracting to me for some reason. I think it's that whole reading left to right thing.

In an ideal world this kind of thing would fall under the aegis of "user preferences" and would be something the user could select for him/herself from a configuration widget or somesuch.

However, I'm sure there are good technical reasons for not opening that Pandora's box. Giving the users a morsel of control over the presentation layer is somewhat akin to putting out a small plate of food for feral cats.

Props to you for taking on and keeping up with this thankless task, zabo. My own brief foray into UI design back in the days of Windows 3.1 warned me off that path for good. You just can't keep everybody happy, and I wasn't about to spend my career making endless ephemeral tweaks trying to keep up with the latest fashion in look and feel. I have a lot of respect/sympathy for someone who decides to put up with that headache.

This might be an appropriate place to impart a tip to those who are annoyed by websites which squish all the content into the center of the monitor screen, leaving large blank spaces to either side:
if you use a browser such as Firefox which gives the user the ability to apply their own custom CSS rules to webpages, you can fix such brokenness. Specifically, in your Firefox user profile, in the "chrome" folder, in
the "userContent.css" file [folder/file to be created if necessary], just type in the following line (without the quotes!):

"@-moz-document domain("itinerant-air-cooled.com") {.wrap {max-width: none !important; }}"

This same line (with substitution of the appropriate domain name), seems to also work on a great many phpBB forum websites. With this, and setting page zoom to 90%, the IAC forum looks much nicer. IMO, of course.

Oh - I missed this. Happy to help if I can.

I'd probably do something with the .htaccess config:

Code: Select all

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

[

Code: Select all

RebuildEngine On
RewriteAirCond %{HTH} !=IDKwhtIMd01ng?
RewriteRule F^(.*)THI$ https://wht%BS{IIRC_OMGitsFML}%{REQUEST_painkiller} [LMAO,RUdone?]
