Sunday drive...

Post by THall » Mon Oct 19, 2015 7:25 am

Took a nice cruise around the south central Wisconsin countryside yesterday. The leaves are not quite at peak, but it was beautiful all the same.

This is with the Headflow Masters engine I received on Oct. 9th after sending it back to have a stock cam installed. I've put on around 300 miles and so far she's been running great...a pleasure to drive with stock engineering.

Me too. After my first IAC visit in Aug '14, my desire to 'dig in' was ignited. Having owned the Westy for 20+ years and a recently acquired '71 T3, you'd think I'd be a shade tree pro. I'm not anywhere near but am blessed to have begun with good stock. So like THall, I find the hills of southwest Wisconsin a perfect place to cruise away a Sunday afternoon. More later from a newbie.

Nice pictures of the fall landscape. It makes me miss the years I spent in Colorado. But then, November and December roll in with that cold and snow.. Burr.. I don't miss that.

Living in Phoenix, we don't really have much of a fall w/leaves changing. A lot of leaves don't turn or fall off the trees until December/January. Odd..

I need to drive to Flagstaff for some fall foliage. Your great pictures make me miss it.

How's that Squareback treating you? How many miles on it now?

Hey C man! ......so you remember this one from Tom's chicken farm, huh? When you said "dig into the wheel wobble" after your visit, I did. Stuck front caliper pistons is what i found and you gave me the nudge to see, dig and conquer. Rebuilt the pistons and new pads with the Mrs. pumping the pedal to bleed new life into the system. I'd say she has.....maybe 200 more miles on now bringing the grand total to 56,239! Smiles where ever we go, too.

Drove across the state to tuck the Squareback away for the winter in a nice, clean and temperature controlled garage. thanks, mom! Final three hours in the saddle until the sun shines warm and the snow is gone. Based on the fun factor and how it drove, I'd say it's above average.

Nice pics! THall's look Blue-Moundsey to me and busboytom's look more like the Richland Center area. Hard to say.

Yep, right across from Blue Mounds at Brigham County Park. We do a group camp there every year.

Busboytom is between Sparta and West Salem. That pic was from a ridge top country road not far from where this one was taken. Me thinks we need a IAC get together next spring/summer somewhere down that way, huh? The Mrs. and I did a 1000 mi trip late Sept north to Duluth then along the south shore of Lake Superior. Ended up in Appleton for the Octoberfest Car Show that features a different make each year. Happened to be "our turn" this year. 75 VW's in all plus hundreds of other ones. Thousands of folks meandering, peaking, gawking ........"have you ever gone camping in this........you mean you can sleep up there"? oh the sheltered lives some people have.

Very nice. I grew up in Tomah. That whole band west of the interstate from Eau Claire, down through Melrose and ontowards Richland Center has such a distinct appearance. The transition zone between flatlands and river bluffs. Ocooch Mountains.

One of these years the Midwest get together will materialize!
