Anybody See The Eclipse?
I went bonkers nutso looking at the stupid low pressure system blanket the east coast. I put a lot of time in at various weather and atmospheric sites trying to see if I could catch a clear patch down south and still get to Athens GA tonight. Alas, I made a compromise that did not work. Right at the intersection of I-75 South and I-40 West, I took mercy on Chloe and did NOT drive to Nashville to get out from under the clouds. I was almost going to banzai to Little Rock, then drive all night back to Georgia just to make sure I caught this last Harvest/Super Eclipse. No, it was cloudy throughout here in Dalton GA. Now I have to wait until I am 74 years-old.
Did I mention that I hate moisture?
Glasseye? Photographs? Did you see it? Anybody?

Re: Anybody See The Eclipse?
Was able to see it quite well here in Chicagoland. There were passing clouds but also enough clear sky to see it. Wish I had a telescope.

Re: Anybody See The Eclipse?
This? It was amazing in Seattle as the sky was perfectly clear for once.
Viewing the moon capped off a good day as earlier I got the new generator in the Ghia and got it running again. First time I have ever had a generator fail.

Re: Anybody See The Eclipse?
Quite a bit of cloud cover from Newhall last night during the reemergence. The initial part of the eclipse was stellar though, as seen from a 1969 VW without a roof. No pictures, just beers and ice cream to pass the time during the total eclipse.

Re: Anybody See The Eclipse?
Beautiful view of it in Phoenix. There were actually (get this) neighbors outside!! For those that don't know, Phoenix is the home of only seeing your neighbors when their garage doors open and close as they leave/come home. I've never lived anywhere that this is so prevalent. Oh, and kids outside playing, even when it's cool outside? Yea, not so much.. Electronics have ruined that for this generation.

Intermittent holes in the clouds allowed some decent glimpses in SoCentral Montana.

Clear skies and excellent viewing here in SE British Columbia. Awesome spectacle.
Not sure why it goes red, though. Shouldn't the Earth reflect mainly blue light?

Re: Anybody See The Eclipse?
Reflect? The Earth's shadow causes a lunar eclipse, not its reflection. The shadow is red because the Earth's atmosphere scatters all but the longest--that is, reddest--wavelengths of sunlight, which it bends inward whereupon they eventually strike the Moon.glasseye wrote:Not sure why it goes red, though. Re: Anybody See The Eclipse?
perfectly clear and visible from here in Eureka, CA. it was best viewed very early in the evening, as soon as the sky started to turn black, I think prior to even 8PM PST.
around midnight I went out just to see how bright the supermoon was. you could have ran around anywhere and been able to see like it was the middle of the day.

I seen'd it, right over the house. Big and orange and weird missing a chunk. I hear it was a dragon which did it.

Re: Anybody See The Eclipse?
Clear skies in South Central Texas. Maybe it's my imagination, but this is one of several eclipses I have seen, and it always seems the wildlife gets quieter than normal as it just about peaks.

Re: Anybody See The Eclipse?
That makes todal sense. For some reason, my mind had the moon being lit only by light bounced off the Earth, but of course the side facing the moon is in shadow. Thanks for making me think harder.whc03grady wrote:Reflect? The Earth's shadow causes a lunar eclipse, not its reflection.
