Reflect? The Earth's shadow causes a lunar eclipse, not its reflection. The shadow is red because the Earth's atmosphere scatters all but the longest--that is, reddest--wavelengths of sunlight, which it bends inward whereupon they eventually strike the Moon.
That makes todal sense. :salute: For some reason, my mind had the moon being lit only by light bounced off the Earth, but of course the side facing the moon is in shadow. Thanks for making me think harder. :study: :thumbleft:
It is said that from the moon, you would see an amazing reddish coronal circle of every sunset on Earth at maximum eclipse. I gotta get up there to see that.
