Volkswagen Diesel Beetle

Post by whc03grady » Tue Sep 22, 2015 4:04 pm

Sorry for linking to Jalopnik articles more than anything else, but there're a couple writers over there who're ACVW guys and pretty funny/interesting writers besides.

"Volkswagen certainly has done a dazzling job of turning their entire line of Diesel cars into a steaming, heaping pile of beaver shit with their duplicitous emissions fudging-system, but it’s nice to know this isn’t the first time diesels have bitten them on the ass. The first time was, of course, much simpler."full article

It would be fun to try again with a little more modern diesel technology atop a Type 4 base . . . slow is the new cool. Says, me, that's who.

I would love to experience that engine. Note, however, that the diesel injection pump is a serious parasite and it is 90* to the crankshaft, which tells me that there must be some bevel gears in that there crankcase, working mighty hard.
