Best thing I've read in the past few days, if not longer. Thanks for the link ~ I'd love to have driven that.

Re: Interesting 1963 VW Big Car Prototype
I'm trying to imagine what that beast would look like without the YoM plate on the front. A VW badge? Maybe between the getting-embarrased-late-bus emblem and the Vanagon pimple of a logo.
1969 bus, "Buddy."

Re: Interesting 1963 VW Big Car Prototype
What I could see of it in person was pretty cool, but the decklid was closed so you couldn't really see the engine. Not at all surprised by the dented front bumper on a museum car -- some of the stuff they had on display in Wolfsburg, while COOL AS HELL, wasn't what would be considered "museum quality" in the USA. The 4x4 Bay had globs of grease on different parts of the axles and drivetrain, plus mud all over the underside. They had a 1963 "Herbie" that was clearly a post-1969 car with the gas filler flap and IRS axles...

"Soviet-era" indeed. Looks like an "upscale" Lada.
That could have been an interesting car, but it would have been tough on their branding.

Not my cup of tea. Likely would have been VW's Edsel.
