Re: Aryton shows you how to shift
I'm flabbergasted at the "popping" abuse of the accelerator pedal. Does he gain some sort of traction through this? I think we should all post videos of our heel-toe technique for our Volkswagens. The bus pedals are a real treat compared to most that I've driven in the last few years.

Re: Aryton shows you how to shift
Nah, he should be doing more left foot braking and keeping the rpm's up. Atlas that's how I was taught but I wasn't the greatest at when I drove my 914 at AX/Track events.

Re: Aryton shows you how to shift
I didn't see any double-clutching, just a little rev-matching.
Robbie, he was executing some steering assist with the accelerator.

Re: Aryton shows you how to shift
It's official. I could never ever abuse an automobile enough to be a race driver.
Was that not a heel-toe double down at sixteen seconds in? And another double down at 1:24?

He's giving that car exactly what it wants. Senna helped critique the NSX while Honda was developing it, if you weren't aware.

Re: Aryton shows you how to shift
You all just gave me an idea. When Colin is here in about a week or so, perhaps he'll be up for making a video about the correct clutch/shifting technique, in the interests of end play preservation. We can post it here, or do a Youtube. That would be a kick!

Re: Aryton shows you how to shift
Get a GoPro with the head strap attachment. I haven't uploaded my own anywhere, but I did a video showing how I adjust the AF/R from the drivers seat - which caught the double-clutching action better than it did my fuel ratio adjustment.

Re: Aryton shows you how to shift
Have you ever driven a 1600 single port Volkswagen bus? Yes, nailing the double clutch downshift into turn six is hair-raisingly exciting.dingo wrote:make sure he is driving like a maniac like he used to in Road warrior ten+ years ago..

Re: Aryton shows you how to shift
I did have one critical moment where an actual heel-and-toe double-clutch downshift was totally necessary.asiab3 wrote:Have you ever driven a 1600 single port Volkswagen bus? I had just anxiously passed a tanker truck trundling along an 8% downgrade at about 55 mph on CA 299 on my way to airkooledchris. I could have sworn the overall view suggested a straight shot down the hill. Once abreast of the tanker, I could see this wtf? 30 mph curve warning sign for the rapidly approaching 200* hairpin curve. Had to eat up valuable braking distance getting ahead of the tanker. Brakes were already at a toasty fade from the prior 100 miles of crazy. Knew that I could not dump in engine braking once into the curve. Even with a hard push on the brake pedal, we were not slowing half well-enough. Shifted into 3rd at 47 mph under heavy braking with a clumsy stab of my heel on the accelerator to 4,000 rpm in neutral. Curve was upon me when I got the clutch out. As the engine braking took over, I remembered that I had suffered exactly this panic with exactly the same car at this exact spot two years ago passing granny in her Honda Accord . . .
