A engine for Colin- a Flat VW 8

With this engine in Cloe mountain passes, deserts and cross country trips would take half the time! Plus it's still a single port!

For the time and energy it would take to eventually get that to work, to any degree, this is what you should buy instead if you want a flat 8!

The engine I posted was out of a Porsche 908 racecar. Flat-eight air-cooled, mounted midship, twin overhead camshaft, fuel-injected, 2997 cc, 360 hp at 8400 rpm

Re: A engine for Colin- a Flat VW 8
That looks like one of the 908 motors that was stolen years ago and was recovered a couple of years ago. Sold at auction along with several other early Porsche race engines.
I posted a pic of a VW flat 8 a guy in Brazil made welding two together. Had trouble with the firing order I think just like the flat 8 Porsche engine did until Porsche sorted it out so it was super smooth. Two early 914's had 908 engines installed as one was a test bed for a race car that F. Piech drove a lot and the other silver one was given to Ferry Porsche on his 60th birthday. It had a solid steel roof too as he drove it every day for years. It was de-tuned to 260hp.

Re: A engine for Colin- a Flat VW 8
I can't even imagine the shoehorn needed to cram that 908's motor into a 914.....
What an amazing setup for a daily driver though!

Hey, it's done with Small Block V8's all the time. Not much different to have an H8 shoehorned in.airkooledchris wrote:I can't even imagine the shoehorn needed to cram that 908's motor into a 914.....

I love the idea, but I know, I just know, the execution is going to come up short.Bleyseng wrote: With this engine in Cloe mountain passes, deserts and cross country trips would take half the time! Plus it's still a single port!
