Never Say Never

Post by ruckman101 » Sat Mar 29, 2014 3:21 pm

When I was in high school I swore I would never sink so low as to work as a dishwasher in a restaurant. Yep. Almost immediately for too many years I worked as a dishwasher in restaurants.

My latest round of "never" was to take a job at Walmart. Yep. Entering the belly of the beast, hawking electronics for them. So it goes. Will work for beer.

I don't think "sink so low" is good wording- if it allows you to do what you love, than more power to you!

True. Thanks. It isn't like I'm not accepting the job. Should be interesting.

Quick, where is the unfriend button as you have sunk to new lows. Nah, just kidding. A job is a job and hope it turns out fine.

Ehhh, it's a means to an end as they all say.

Good luck, hopefully you won't have too many dumb questions.

Wednesday I find out the details. All I know at this point is that I have a job. I'm assuming it's in the electronics department, as that was what I interviewed for.

"Would you like to purchase an extended warranty for that thumb drive Sir?"

I'm surprised, just because you've hated Walmart since I've known you. Vocally.

Indeed I do. I'm proud of the fact I have only been in one once, and spent less than $10 when I did. They built a new one in Battleground that isn't open yet that I'm assuming I'll be working at. Maybe I can assist with unionizing efforts. It's also an easy job to quit with few regrets, like in the fall when we are planning a six week road trip that we didn't make last year because Bertha Bus's engine went down. Never say never.

You haven't even started, and you're already plotting your revenge.
Did the possiblility of applying yourself and doing well even enter your mind?

You're way too smart for this. You can do so much better.

It is possible to play the game without completely losing your soul. As I think I've said here before, the purpose of work is to obtain money to fund your life. Once you accept that fact, it becomes a simple matter of optimizing the dollars earned per unit of suck. Just a little bit of being willing to do what the asshole says will improve both those vectors over HellMart.
Truth is like poetry.
And most people fucking hate poetry.

This is so true.

But even today- I was called away from my lunch break to retrieve a cell phone out of a lake. Sometimes we aren't in charge of The Suck.

This . . . is a story that must be developed a little.
