I think a bunch of us should put in $50 each to buy it, and then put aside a week or two sometime around Maupin to perform a Colin-led complete dis- and reassembly.

Wow! Very nice indeed.

$30,000 seems reasonable. I can't read the purchase price in '78, but $30,000 in 2011 dollars would be about $8,800 in 1978 dollars when considering inflation.

MSRP for '78 Westies was $8,570 if NADA can be trusted. That's $30,416.53 in 2012 dollars so I guess the price is a bit of a loss.

I'd buy it but don't have the money any more. I wonder what he picked it for? I could spend a fruitful summer's itinerary detailing and correcting that thing. Those speakers are hideous and mangled the foot well panels all before this car has seen a lousy 1,000 miles?
Ya think they could have washed it?? before wasting ad copy on excuses as to why it wasn't?

I saw this car ad too and thought it the perfect bus for Colin to drive around seeing the USA in style and comfort.
