Vacuum leak. Is everything connected and secure, triple-checked? You sure? Also inspect the daylights out of the s-boot, cracks in there are sneaky little bastards sometimes.

Bump the timing a bit, see what that does for ya.

Actually we swapped the AFM and it started right up and idle, then we noticed that the AFM plug wasn't plugged in!

Plugged it in and now it won't run at all.

IFBwax wrote:Just an idea and could be totally off base.. but you know how the AFM has that little arm that turns off the pump when you turn off the ignition.. could it be bent so that when you give it gas, it grounds out turning off the pump?

Trying to help.
Thanks, but I don't think so, as I'm holding the wiper away from the shut off point. We scavenged an AFM from my parts Westy to see if it works...no idea what the PO did with this AFM

UPDATE!!!!! Swapped AFM now she purrrrrssss like a kitten!!!! A full day of head scratching! Now were off to the campsite in the dark.

Save that AFM. I want to make any bus engine run perfectly with it. At Maupin. For fun. Beer shooters each time the engine stalls.

Yeah .. THIS.

If the engine started and ran with that AFM before the head R&R, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. Sure, you swapped the AFM and now it starts runs & drives .. but in swapping you disturbed the electrical connection, jostled the s-boot around, tightened clamps and hoses...

Yeah, but I'd already jostled, disturbed, and tightened. We're just glad it's now running well...and yes, that AFM isn't leaving my possession.

I second and third the jostling and disturbing. Something is up with that AFM.

That's a pretty bus there Todd. Are you driving that back to Chicago? Where are you staying now?
The best navigators aren't sure where they're going until they get there. And then they're still not sure.

Yes. Helena, Montana.

It needs some love, Wayne, but it has a good heart. I'm enjoying driving the Troutmobile through the mountains.

A quote directly from the VDubtech "That will buff right out" book of saving Bays.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace. Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod, The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
