Ka-LUNK!
(uh, is it supposed to do that?)
The poor former case sits forlornly in a oily pool in a webbed filthy corner of the garage, discarded and picked apart for vitals. Betcha there's still some good bits in there.

Yes I am a bit surprised! But I am at a constant 27. O' the horrors of imagination.

Your bus is fast. I'm in an unloaded '79 and I can only go 1 or 3 MPH faster up the hill. When we were heading to Clacky Camp, I backed off and then tried to catch up to you going up that 7% grade. I could, but just barely.

and when you were swinging through those corners, I couldn't keep up with you. True, I have 19 year old passenger car tires but still.... you outran me in the corners and I had to punch it on the straightwaways to catch you. and Hal was nowhere to be found.

Captain Midnight, your vehicle has arrived.

Wasn't trying too hard; I was hanging back ready to play Trouble Truck if the need arose. <knocks wood> 'Sides, my shifter gets noisy-rattley much past 50MPH in third .. I've *got* to replace that shift rod bushing one of these days.

Another 300 highway + miles on the engine, running better and better.
It's amazing to be able to cruise at 40 in 3rd climbing grades.
Strangely, after a long hard multihour run it's dry underneath. However, run and get groceries and I'll get a couple drips (or nothing...)
It is a thrill to drive now though. Nothing like hitting the gas and getting pushed back in yer seat. Somewhat. It has awesome lowend power now, really loves driving in the mountains.
So there you have it. I really gotta get that back bumper on.

Guess what, the bumper is now back on.
Nice restored splash pans too. Got them second hand for peanuts but they were a mess, siezed nuts, rusty, bent out of shape. After some hambone love and new Wolfsburg West seals (can you believe someone makes such an obscure part? It's pretty complex too) they look fancy and durable. POR15 with gray spray Rustoleum applied when POR15 still tacky, seems almost powdercoated. Did the same thing with the heat exchangers and they're holding up very well.
I tried to paint a NW native inspired eagle on the back, worked really hard and made a stencil. But now I see how hard it is to paint freehand like that, it looked like a 1/2 wit grade school kid did it..I was horrified and painted over it. Some things can be imagined but take lots of practice and a skilled hand to realize.
So, I guess this means the build is officially done. Drove to work today to celebrate.
I have a few little videos of the krew that I would like to post when I remember. Who stole my brain tonic?

Geeze Bob!

Would it be too hard to post up a picture? I wanna see it (without having to drive cross town to do so). You know the old saying, "a picture is worth a thousand words." Maybe more due to inflation.

Oh HUSH you know I do.
P.S. it's a screw-cap. No corkscrew needed.
only the finest for Escada parking lots
Truth be told the bumper isn't that exciting. But I hadta blab about it. It even has a few dings and bumps under the paint. At least the damn thing is done. But those splash pans look swell I'll tells ya.
