Counteract Rust Prevention Device - Opinions??

Post by fukengruvenoval » Mon Sep 11, 2006 1:37 pm

These: http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/ ... 8006877637 recently went on sale at Canadian Tire.

At first I thought $200 - no way! But, I guess it lasts the lifetime of the vehicle so it would be cheaper than regular rustproofing.

I don't plan on winter driving my bus, but I want it to last a long time. What are your thoughts?

I've checked into stuff like this before. Seems like sound research and development. the priciple by which it operates totally make sense. Does it REALLY work though...?

We used to stick big ol' zinc bars into the cooling system of old cars with aluminum heads, that helped to stop electrolysis between the coolant and the iron and aluminum. The zinc would sacrifice itself.

That's what they use on ships. I've never seen reliable reports that it works on cars though.

Modern coolants have plenty of additives to control that sort of corrosion. I'm talking stuff in the teens and twenties where you had to add water pump grease too. Here's to progress :drunken:

Ya know, I saw a webpage report one time that convinced me why these couldn't work. Darned if I can remember what is was or even why it wasn't supposed to work.
So they use it in the salt industry or something? I wonder if you can contact some company that works their vehicles in a highly corrosive environment and see what they have to say. Just a thought.
