Good point.
That said, I'd rather get it all working "as designed" one day. And that means fixing all the little things I can along the way! (besides, it helps me learn about my bus!)
Love your bus.

well, in that case...get a cheap voltmeter or multimeter...then you can check unknown wires for continuity to ground...or for 12V...with and without ignitionON etc etc....

The black wire in the Lord Ratwell Archive is a live voltage read-out for the diagnostic connector.
1977 I do not know, but treat it like it is radioactive until you know. Do a test light test with ignition off/on/start to see if it juices up and when.

unfortunately, that only shows the wiring for the fuel injection loom and not the charging system. Thanks for calling us fine, though. I scanned it and durocshark hosted it...and I hope it will help keep many busses on the road.

The black and blue wire should both be connected otherwise, the system will not charge...

I have the black diconnected, the one out of the harness is dead, the one out of the alt. harness is live. Tape it up so it will never short. I'm going to use it to power a switched and fused light in the engine bay. The blue one is for your alt light on the dash. Turn your key on without starting, the oil and alt lights should come on .

My black is disconnected, no worries. It went to the diagnostic plug to tell VW BigBrother that the alternator was putting out.
