Hey Colin...do you have any readings on CHT effects when driving with the engine lid propped vs closed? Would be curious. I've heard that having the lid propped can drop the CHT temps ~12* or so.

Hah! The rubber stamp on that report is dated two days before I was born. 600 degrees? Must have sucked some plastic bags in...oh, wait...no plastic bags back then.

Re: CHT info
That was an interesting read. We of 87 octane gasoline do not have the knock protection of 100 octane jet fuel.72Hardtop wrote:http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/b806053.pdf

Under the assumption that:
a) side scoops would pressurize the engine compartment with cool air at highway speed
b) hot undercar air gets sucked into the fan with the hatch open,
I expected temperatures to go up when I tested the BobD at 103* in Texas in 2011.
I found no appreciable difference between engine hatch open or closed.
Who on Earth suggested a 12* drop with the hatch open?

Re: CHT info
On a 914 there is a 12* drop with the engine hatch open or off.
