Itinerant Air-Cooled

Just got done rebuilding my jalousie windows in the '78 westy, and one of them is loose, and won't close tightly.
The knob has 3 or so revolutions of free play, with no action on the window. I'm thinking that the interior of the closing mechanism is worn/stripped.
Has anybody taken these apart? They are riveted together, so I'm kinda apprehensive of just ripping it apart,
Are replacement parts avail for the internal crank mechanism?

Btw..the rebuild went rather smoothly, thanks to VW Matts videos, and Wolfsburg Wests seal kit, and a bunch of elbow grease to restore the lustre on the aluminium.

I thought you wanted sliders? I rebuilt my jalousies the thing that did the trick was drilling out the arms and reriveting them

Yep, I was contemplating the silders, but decided to keep the jalousies, and rebuild them.
Looking good. Now if they would just close properly, all would be great.

Just went through the same issues with my Jalouise windows too. I bought my window cranks from here: [http://parkin-acc.com/page3.html
After window is removed from Bus. You will have to remove the four screws that hold bottom of frame. Pull connector bar out carefully. Drill the rivets that hold the crank housing out. Installation in reverse.

They are cheap pot metal and worm gears inside so, after a while, they break. Closing them too tight or over cranking will break the gears inside too. Driving with them open adds to the stress, and eventually they crap out. All was well with my old ones until a hot humid windy day I couldn't take it any longer so opened them. One closed fine at destination, the other did not. Tore it apart and replaced. No clatter and back to normal. =D>

Hey there Boesen...thanks for the info on the torque operators.

Just checking before I order them, are the ones you used for your rebuild the Hehr window operators, part # 008-191 left, and 008-192 right?

After talking to Parkin parts, they said that I need to know the window manufacturer. Do you know, if in fact it is Hehr? I don't see any manufacturers ID anywhere.

Yes they worked for mine. They asked me the same questions when I ordered them. As you stated no markings on windows either. They worked for me and also worked for a few guys on TS too.

No problem. Super easy to change out. Just remember after they are replaced to not over tighten when closing them as the pot metal gears inside tend to break easy.
