Has your Bus seen better days?

Have Volkswagen restore it? I can't imagine what they would charge for a restoration. :pale: I'm also not so confident on the quality that would come from them. Maybe I'm just way to cynical these days on how much VW cares about their "heritage".

Bertha loves every day.

Putting her to work today, running a load to goodwill, finally getting around to lugging her sister Betty Baja up to the mountain.

Bertha wears her dents and dings of life with a pride in patina.
The slipper has no teeth.

I barfed a little when I read that Volkswagen has "always" took its heritage seriously. That's a damn lie.
Nonetheless, I am encouraged that they are using lead in the shop, not bondo.

They have access to the remaining oem parts for their wealthy patrons while we bottom-feeders who kept their heritage alive get EMPI crap.

I am not bitter I am not bitter I am not bitter.

They just setup their classics shop like the one at the Porsche Museum and I am sure its big bucks for a resto. I wonder if they use AMC/Len Hoffman type 4 heads? :fart:

Man that would be cool as hell...too bad it's not like the old days when they were churning them out.
I can't imagine the cost. Ironic that it's the same car going home again but for a ton more $$$$.
That would probably make the car very valuable and out of our price range.
Neal is right, they should wear their scars with pride. 40 years on the road creates character.
I don't like home renovations either when all the vintage stuff gets drywall etc.

Then when you renovate and re-uncover the tin ceilings and restore the wood floors, and expose hidden arches . . . then you're doing my kind of renovate. Beauty AND character.

Yes, I like to restore houses besides old VW's. This is the 1940's house in Suriname and what I have done in the last year.

Is that a new pitch into the side of the house, or is there a space?

No, there is a big space between the house and the carport roof, maybe 10 feet. Why? so the damn drug addicts/thieves won't jump across to climb into the second floor. The first floor windows all have "thief iron" and wooden shutters to keep em out.

Well . . . that answers my drainage question, I guess.
