The new project

Post by anotherbluebus » Sun Mar 04, 2012 5:33 pm

I really don't need to take this on, but couldn't pass it by. The PO of our '69 bus called about the vintage (it pains me to call something vintage when I know for a fact it was made after I was born) car-top tent that has been in his family since new. He tempted me with photos of it on our blue bus a couple of summers ago at Timothy Lake. Then he played the nostalgia card by scanning and sending a couple of pics of the same tent on 2 different split window buses his parents owned. How could I pass?? It's a "Camp-o-tel" that was purchased at Sears. The canvas has been replaced a couple of times. The cushions are original and pretty disgusting. Nearly every piece of hardware has been repaired or replaced with something that wasn't quite the same. Still, it does work. The ends are going to be a bit of a challenge. One is mostly intact. The other is missing, with a couple of yards of red striped outdoor coated PVC fabric intended as replacement.

Anyone know someone or place that can/will sew some circus awning tent ends?

That is a very nice picture, not to mention, a way cool tent.

I don't know of anyplace that for sure does that kind of stuff, but if I were to start looking .. maybe get ahold of Waagmeester Canvas on NE Alberta. They might do that kind of work, but if they don't at least they might know of someplace in the area that *does*.

There is a boat-sail shop on NE Alberta, not sure of the name. Unless it's a Thai restaurant now...
