Exhaust copper seals?

Any tips on annealing these? I was going to heat them up real good (till glowing) and then allow them to cool.

I just heat them up with a propane torch for a few minutes and then drop them on the floor. If they make a thud sound rather than a ringing sound then they're good to go.
