Re: Contemplating [re]build
If they are Bosch they are good. Other folks have had problems with the non Bosch injectors so "ya take you chances when you roll the dice".

Re: Contemplating [re]build
It will pay for itself soon enough in reduced fuel expenses over big honkin' aftermarket carbs, not to mention the driveability that is as solid as a modern car.luftvagon wrote:I can keep the FI, it will just cost me more..
Think of your current fuel injection questions as merely small issues waiting to be discovered. Even a mouse bitten harness with frayed connectors can be put back in running order with a roll of electrical tape and some speaker wire. Not that I would do that, but it is that simple and rugged.

Re: Contemplating [re]build
On Monday I need to start ordering new parts to accompany new engine:
[] All New Fuel Lines
[] New Starter (inspect/rebuild or replace)
[] New Alternator (inspect/rebuild or replace)
\_ Belt has already been replaced
[] New Clutch (Heavy Duty, Bus-Depot)
[] New Intake Manifold Gaskets
[] Heavy Duty/Gauge Wires to Re-Do Grounds...
What else should I be replacing while down there?

Re: Contemplating [re]build
Fuel filter. Check for rust in the old one. If you find rust, budget for a new fuel tank eventually.
Don't go crazy with replacing everything. If the starter/alternator/ground straps/what-have-you are working fine, there's no real good reason to replace them. In today's world, newer isn't necessarily better. Sometimes the original 30-year old slightly-worn parts will hold up better than shiny-new parts (fuel hoses and tires being an exception, of course).
Have fun.

Re: Contemplating [re]build
I now know why they call them Vanagon (pronounced Van Again :)..
I could not start my van again this morning, and had to ride my RT in cold winter rain.
I am suspecting my patch to the AAR 90 elbow did not last heat cycles.

Re: Contemplating [re]build
I am going to order that. Even though soldering copper pipe would be more cost effective =).

Re: Contemplating [re]build
hypothetically speaking, has anyone considered putting water injection on their air bus?

Why? My two air buses and one frumpy little air Squareback tool around just as happy as can be. I stop for water only when I am thirsty.luftvagon wrote:hypothetically speaking, has anyone considered putting water injection on their air bus?
