Good progress on Sunday. Had to stop for another obligation.
What's left? I need to finish getting everything on the engine (not much more!) then get someone to give me a hand with taking the engine off the stand and getting the flywheel on and adjust the endplay. You know, same ol', same ol'.

Get ready for some porn!

So first question(s) of the day, how hard is it to replace the hose from the rail to the injectors? I notice there is a metal cap of sorts at the base. Is it pinched on? Is it a part that needs to be replaced when you do this task?

Image

Second set of questions...
One of plastic covers that goes over the spark plug from the distributor wire is chipped. I bought a replacement. I also have nice soft gaskets to replace the old ones. To remove the damaged plastic cover (not sure what it's called at the moment but I know I will within an hour or so :-) ), do I just pull it off? Or is there a specific method? And do I need to remove all of them in order to replace the gaskets? Sorry for the poor grammar and vague explanations this morning.

thanks!

O.k. I'll bite. How hard the job is or isn't does not deem it any less necessary.

Those lines need to be replaced. The metal cap of sorts has to be cut with stout wire cutters or the like. Then carefully use a razor knife to split the old rotten hose and gently remove it from the injectors. Then throw those worm-drive clamps that are holding the other end to the fuel rail away and use the nice ones like shown on the right side of your photo to clamp new lengths of your newly purchased reinforced 7mm ID fuel hose to both ends (rail and injector).

It's easy.

I believe the plastic (bakelite?) connector that physically attaches to the spark plug simply screws off of the wire that comes from the distributor. Once off, you can replace the rubber seal and then screw the connector back on the wire. Usually one replaces the entire set of plug wires which gets you new connectors, wires and seals, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Those bakelite (plastic) ends to the spark plug wires unscrew from the wire to remove them. Replace the seals, screw the ends back on, then give the end a little tug to make sure it's actually screwed into/onto the wire.

Hmmmmm...I got the bakelite (sure!) connector at Halsey's. I bet they have everything I need. I didn't think about replacing everything, just what was broken.

I was planning on replacing that FI hose no matter what. I don't have any more of those particular hose clamps though. Not sure if I can get them in town. Anybody in PDX know?

Parkrose Hardware has those clamps back in the Nuts-N-Bolts section .. for a heck of a lot cheaper than the 4-pack that Baxter Auto tries to sell ya.

They're in trays on the short "end" of the counter/bench area. Metric copper crush washers are around the "front" of the same spot.

Be careful when you are cutting on those hose clamps. The injector nipple is under there.

Wire cutters like these with the cutter out to the tip:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... J0BEPMCMAI

If you don't have that you can cut diagonally across the clamp with a hacksaw. Careful with all that plastic there.

remember to try and get fuel clamps with rounded/beveled edges:
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/detai ... wid4137vq5

It wants to be gut'n'tight and over time the non beveled can cut into the hose.
