Hey now, that's hard on the ecosystem. Proper disposal of hazards is a help.

Thanks Troy! I'll sell you my next project.
Hey that would be a hoot, custom restoration for people. Place your order like in a diner: "I'd like a '72 Beetle please, extra swagger". It is nice to put the life back into a nearly dead car.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
BTW Always VW in Portland makes keys based on the code for $25, not bad. All the locks work! With the same key! At first the locks went "nah I'm stiff and sleeping go way" but after gentle persuasion and some lubricant the tumblers tumbled. Oh it is almost a complete car again. And I got paid for it yesterday! Sure is nice to close the desperation gap for a spell. And I'm teaching someone to tune their '68 Beetle tomorrow, let the good times roll. Hopefully I can keep this going.hambone wrote:Thanks Troy! Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
Upon replacing the TVS, it ran well...no more hesitation, fingers crossed. Drove it all over the neighborhood. Very peppy.
I do believe it is soup.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
Ha, such a simple fix! Djet is a really nice system and smooth. Glad the backyard mechanic fix didn't happen- rip it out for dual baby carbs.

No no no, we were there, taking apart the old switch and doing ohmmeter massages on series of springloaded contacts,Bleyseng wrote:Ha, such a simple fix! Djet is a really nice system and smooth. Glad the backyard mechanic fix didn't happen- rip it out for dual baby carbs.

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
I like it. A robot made from Model T parts. I am a purist; if it had FI originally then it should stay that way (within reason!).
Colin you were right on the money back in Oct, "no clicky". I just ASSumed that your intelligent looking ohmmeter finagling "fixed" the issue.
The new switch doesn't have that sloppy contact issue. It is just a hair's difference really.
It really is a perky system, much more so than a single Solex. I hope the future doesn't hold any funky surprises!

Re: 1972 Squareback Restoration
I used to get 35-40 mpg in my 1969 Fastback easy....I hit 50mpg once freeway driving a long distance using the "fuel cutoff" feature so when driving let off the throttle going down any grades, coasting without using any gas as the rpms and speed hardly dropped.
I miss that little car as it was really nice to drive....I gave it to my brother who promptly made a mess of it.

I do so enjoy hearing successful resolutions to issues. It gives me hope. May I soon be able to share a success story, too.

The car looks great. It's great seeing another Type III back on the road--they're the second best air-cooled VWs of all, after Schwimmwagens (IMHO).

Schwimmwagens, yeah, I'm always hoping to spot and snag a pristine lake find. That's where my polaroid sunglasses come in. No luck yet though.
