YOu ever bring that 914 to Portland? I'd love a ride.

Yah, I am thinking 914 also. I found one pretty close for a good price.

yes, I do drive it down to Portland sometimes maybe in Sept...you can get a ride then unless you come here.

That one in the ad is cheap but you are thinking in terms of VW part prices as that will cost a lot to finish...and its only the cheapie 1.8L model so its not that desirable. The magic 2.0l models are a must if you are going to pour money into a 914..

Yes, but better yet 914 - 6!

When I was just out of high school, I went to work for Don Burns Porsche and the first Stick that I drove was a 914 with the funky gate between the 3rd to 5th gears. :pale:

Me too. When enjoying the twisty Los Angeles Crest highway in my old '71 911, I found that having 5th in the H made much more sense. I miss that little car, back when 911s were simple and strong.

Wayne,
I'm not gonna lie, I was more than a little surprised when you mentioned selling Charlie. I guess I get a little too attached to other people's VWs, and Charlie ranks somewhere in my top-10 favorite VWs. I think it's his color(s) and the roof rack that do it for me.

Are you at all considering family drives in the next VW? I don't know how much longer your girls need to be in carseats/boosters, but it ain't easy getting them to fit safely in a Squareback which is downright roomy compared to a Beetle. And a Ghia is pretty dinky from what I understand (not that there's anywhere to put carseats in a Ghia).

My vote for your next purchase is (my-hands-down-all-time-favorite-ACVW-for-now-and-for-all-time) a Type 3 Notchback.

Then, build a ramp and a little loft in your garage, and park that Type 3 Notchback right above ol' Charlie.

There is no room for rear car seats in a Ghia vert...barely enough leg room for kids. That said, a Ghia makes for a great commuter car...

Wayne has the Westy Camper to bring the family in IMHO..

Melissa, you still need a type 3 MPS??? Let me know soon as I am leaving for Holland for a month.
