The breather cap jack-in-the-box needs to be secure. Try a wrap of electrical tape where it seats. You do not want unfiltered ambient air getting sucked into the breather.

Another question
on the left carb (32pdsit)
there is a connection for what seems to be a vacuum line, it has a cap on it

should something be running to that?
cause I see no other hoses from when i took it apart that went there............

Maybe we could be a little MORE speciFIC??
Is this vacuum nipple at the throttle body pointing inboard and up? (vacuum retard for a PDSIT bus) Is it in the body of the carb itself pointing outboard? (vacuum advance)

The upholstry looks pretty good.
Can you get rocker panels and stuff, complete, for Squarebacks, or do you have to fabricate all that?

The float bowl does not have a "drain tube" . . .

Sorry
But nothing in the 4 books i have had my head in
Nor the countless searches within countless forums has led me to knowing what that is and what i need to do with it, if anything at all :pale:
And the exploded diagrams of the 32pdsits havent explained it to me either unless i am just not seeing it, which is completely possible

Just trying to learn and figure this baby out

Vacuum advance.
Vacuum Advance.
VACUUM ADVANCE.

If you have a vacuum advance can on your distributor, you put a hose from the carb vacuum advance nipple to the distributor vacuum advance nipple. Then you check to see if the engine advances beyond the centrifugal advance when you blip the throttle.

I don't know how to make it any more clear. But I need clear responses from you that suggest you actually read my supposition.
For example, you might have written in response to my last post,
"I have a vacuum hose leading to my distributor advance already."
Or you could have written, "I do not have a vacuum advance distributor."
You know, anything to help us get you through.

yes i do read all your written words with clean and ever present understanding
I also appreciate said words from you

I do not have a vacuum advance distributor

In fact, this is my first Air-cooled
as I may have mentioned
so I am on a learning curve,
which may actually be the leading cause to my vagueness

it is what it is
this is unfamiliar territory for me
I try and learn as I can

OK, leave the nipple capped.
Colin
(I recommend a factory spec distributor for best driveability)
